What inspired the Tri-Zone All Sports Boots?
Brushing boots are traditionally used across all disciplines. However, in general, they tend to only provide protection from brushing and are made from a non-breathable neoprene. Equilibrium wanted to create something that could truly be used for any activity, with all round protection. Alongside this protection, Equilibrium wanted to ensure maximum comfort for the horse, as well as taking into account leg health. Therefore, the super lightweight, breathable, flexible, and protective boot known as All Sports Boots was born!
Protection provided by the All Sports Boots for horses.
The boot design uses a four-layer system, each chosen for their unique properties.
The first layer is providing an inner lining that sits against the horses' leg. Made from perforated EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate), the liner sits comfortably against the leg. The perforations allow heat to escape and aids breathability, while the flexibility of the material allows it to mould to the horses' leg.
Layer two is a strong nylon mesh. This adds another layer of protection to the sports boots, but also stops any debris making its way into the boot towards your horses' leg.
Layer three is the internal guard made from vinyl - a strong, durable and moisture resistant material. This layer is placed over the vulnerable tendon area and is made with strips of material to allow it to mould around the horses leg. This allows the horse to move freely without the feeling of a ‘splint’.
Lastly, the outer layer is an EVA waffle. Commonly used in the soles of human shoes and as padding on sports equipment, this material is durable, breathable, and protective! We’ve made sure it's easy to clean and maintain too!
Who are Tri-Zone All Sports Boots for?
Anyone can use Tri-Zone All Sports Boots! However here are a few scenarios they are commonly used in:
• As a breathable turnout boot.
• A lightweight cross country with internal tendon protection.
• A hacking or endurance boot that doesn't hold water.
• A comfortable flatwork boot offering all round protection.
• As a durable and long-lasting everyday boot.
How do I care for the Tri-Zone All Sports Boot?
Machine washable at 30 degrees, so you can quickly and easily clean your boots. Our Hook Cleaner Brush can also help keep your straps debris free and prolong their life.
Or for quick day to day care, you can give them a short rinse on the yard and leave them to dry ready for the next day.

• Extremely lightweight; they don’t hold water!
• Independently tested for breathability and protection.
• Flexible.
• Breathable.
• Lightweight.
Made from high quality Spacer Fabric and EVA Waffle making them flexible, durable, comfortable to wear and breathable. The design ensures your horses’ legs are kept cool, whilst protecting your horses’ legs from brushing during ridden work or out in the field.
Can be worn on front or hind legs as required.
What is the inspiration behind the Tri-Zone Brushing Boots?
As preventing horses’ legs from overheating is such a ‘hot’ topic, Equilibrium wanted to create a brushing boot that moved away from the traditional neoprene to something that is scientifically tested to fulfil its role protecting the leg from brushing related injuries, while remaining as breathable as possible. While the Tri-Zone All Sports Boots are very breathable, not every horse or activity warrants all round protection, so a durable and lightweight brushing boot was the solution.
What are the materials used in the Tri-Zone Brushing Boots?
Inner Layer: The spacer fabric on the inside of the boot creates a soft lining against your horses’ leg. Ideal to act as a ‘cushion’ and comfortable to wear, the spacer fabric is also fantastic at letting heat and moisture pass through easily to get sweat and warmth away from the skin. This fabric doesn’t hold water, to ensure they stay lightweight even when wet!
Outer Layer: EVA material is commonly found in the soles of human shoes and as padding on sports equipment - this material is durable, breathable, and protective. Equilibrium have made sure it's easy to clean and maintain too. Tested in a laboratory to withstand a considerable amount of brushing action, the EVA is abrasion and scratch resistant, doesn’t hold any water and offers great impact protection.
Who are the Tri-Zone Brushing Boots for?
In short, the Tri-Zone Brushing Boots are for everyone. Due to the breathable and protective properties of the boot they can be for flatwork, hacking, can even splash through water without the boots becoming heavy as they do not with hold water, or turnout in all conditions.
The breathable material makes them perfect for all year round especially in hot weather, unlike traditional neoprene brushing boots, the Tri-Zone Brushing Boots provide good ventilation to keep your horses legs cool and are the most breathable boot within our range.
Due to their design and the sizes available, they fit a wide variety of horses too – from those with little bone to horses with feather. Their design also allows for free movement of the fetlock – a high motion joint that plays a fundamental part in how your horse moves.
How do I care for the Tri-Zone Brushing Boots?
The boots can be washed off with a rinse from the hose or if needing a slightly more thorough wash, they are machine washable at 30 degrees Celsius. Leave them to air dry away from a direct heat source and they will be dry and ready to use in no time!
Why use Brushing Boots?
Brushing Boots are a popular choice of boot to protect the horse’s lower leg during exercise from ‘brushing’ injuries. These are injuries that may occur if one leg, or hoof, strikes the opposite leg. Brushing boots can also provide protection from minor scrapes and injuries during schooling, hacking, or turnout. This modern brushing boot is also lightweight, durable and the most cost-effective boot for everyday use.

Inspiration Behind the Design of Stellar:
Driven by a commitment to equine welfare and safety, Equilibrium embarked on a journey to investigate headcollar standards, a piece of equipment used daily by most horse owners. The survey findings were startling, showcasing alarming injury rates. This ignited the start of a commitment to delve deeper into headcollar testing and safety.
At Equilibrium we are dedicated to continuously evaluating and developing our products. After conducting a thorough examination of headcollar safety and incorporating valuable feedback from our dedicated customer-base, an opportunity was highlighted to further elevate the Stellar All-Weather Headcollar design to offer a tailored release system, which is appropriate for the individual horse’s size and weight. The Safety Release System is now located on the right side of the headcollar allowing for easy replacement no longer needing to replace the whole headpiece, but also allowing for easy adjustability.
Headcollar Safety Survey Results:
Equilibrium commissioned Dr David Marlin to conduct a survey. Answered by 5615 horse owners*, the survey aimed to find out their experience with using headcollars. This included how often they used them, what types were used, how they were used and the problems associated with them.
The results were surprising.
• Almost 1 out of 3 people experienced a horse being injured as a result of a headcollar.
• More than 1 in 7 people have been injured in a headcollar related incident.
• There were 167 horse fatalities as a result of a headcollar.
Unsurprisingly the majority of incidents happened tied outside, closely followed by in the field.
These results demonstrated that perhaps, headcollars should be investigated in more depth…
Find the published results here: https://beva.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/eve.13480
Scientific Testing of Headcollars:
To explore headcollar safety further, Equilibrium commissioned Dr. David Marlin to test the release points of different types of headcollars and tying up devices, including baling twine. The results showed a great variation, from some tie up aids releasing as low as 9kg, to some headcollars releasing as high as over 600kg - more than the average horses’ weight.
Find the full research paper here: https://doi.org/10.1177/17543371211039610
Equilibrium conducted more testing to develop this concept further using a tensile machine. Different lengths of straps were tested to measure their maximum load before releasing. This allowed the appropriate strap and release weight to be matched with the ideal horse size, with the average release rates being based on 10-15% of the horse’s or pony’s weight. Therefore, the different headcollar sizes are set to release at an average of:
Small/Pony Headcollar = 45kg.
Medium/Cob Headcollar = 58kg.
Large/Horse Headcollar = 68kg.
Extra Large Headcollar = 83kg.
The release system is tested to release consistently, up to 10 times. Equilibrium recommends that the safety strap is replaced after 10 pulls (or if the Velcro is not adhering well) to ensure efficiency of the strap.

The Pony Pad is designed for ponies in rug sizes 5ft6” and under or 14.0h, alternatively, if you have a horse in 6ft6”+ rug sizes, you may want to look at the XL Massage Pad.
Massage Pad Testing:
Equilibrium take pride in researching and testing their products. The Equilibrium Massage Pad was independently tested by Myerscough College in Lancashire, UK.
There were two parts to the study:
1) The horses were measured for signs of stress / relaxation immediately before, during and after the application of the massage pads over a six-week period
2) The horses were assessed in terms of flexibility and suppleness. There were two groups of horses – a treated group and a control group.
Test Methods
Back flexibility was assessed using the ‘Arch Dip Test’. The Arch & Dip test is a reliable and proven indicator of back flexibility (Pelham & Schobesberger 2006). It involves the use of pressure stimulus to generate a reflex in the horses’ back. Pressure applied to a specific region in the spinal area results in the horse ‘dipping’ away from the pressure, with a more flexible back allowing the horse to exhibit a greater ability to dip away from the source of the pressure. The arch test involves the application of pressure to the horses’ midline, in order to stimulate an upwards arch reflex in the horses’ back away from the source of pressure. Similarly, a more flexible back allows the horse to exhibit a greater ability to arch the back upwards away from the source of the pressure.
The results, following six weeks of testing, showed that the massage pad offers significant benefits to horses. A significant increase in back flexibility and relaxation was noted, but it also showed an increase in stride length.
Increased Flexibility
Massage helps to promote flexibility in healthy muscle tissue, fascia, and other soft tissue fibres. The effects of massage on flexibility can be measured using the 'Arch Dip' test to determine the amount of upwards or downwards bend of the horses' back. Test results from the trials demonstrated an overall improvement in back flexibility of approximately 46%.
Stride Length
The trial showed that the stride length of the treated horses increased over the period of the test by 12cms, whereas the control group showed little improvement. Horse owners know that a small change in stride length can make a major difference to the way of going in a horse!
Promoting Relaxation
Using a heart rate monitor, horses wearing the Equilibrium Massage Pad showed an increase in relaxation compared to the horses in the control group.
The results after 6 weeks of testing indicate that 1) the horses appeared more relaxed and 2) the performance of the horse would be expected to improve due to the increased flexibility of the horses’ back muscles. Relaxed muscles will assist with flexibility and movement in particular for competition horses performing dressage movements and jumping technical fences.
How does the Standard Massage Pad work?
The control panel allows you to select low, medium, or high settings and as a result, you can choose the intensity of the program to suit your pony. Each program runs through a cycle of three different types of massage – pulsing, vibration, and stroking –to ensure all muscles are worked in different ways.
Choosing your setting:
• LOW for cool down after exercise, for a sensitive horse or to introduce the pad to your pony for the first time.
• MEDIUM to warm up the muscles prior to exercise or for general maintenance.
• HIGH if your pony prefers a more intense massage.
The massage pad will run for 30 minutes before turning itself off automatically however, you can manually turn it off sooner if needed.
It can be used on its own or in conjunction with the hand-held Massage Mitt for an all over massage, or the Massage Mitt Hotspot to combine heat and massage.
When to use the Standard Massage Pad?
In short, you can use the Standard Massage Pad before riding, after riding or on a day off! Here’s a few scenarios:
• Horses on box rest to maintain good circulation.
• After exercise to help support recovery.
• Before exercise as part of warm up.
• At a show after travelling to relax.
• On your horses day off as general maintenance.
• Anytime as a reward.

What inspired the horse Massage Mitt Hotspot Heat Pad for horses?
With the Equilibrium Massage range already helping horses worldwide, it seemed only natural to add the next best thing – heat! Not just a heat pad, Equilibrium have added different types of massage so you can really tailor the session to your horses needs and preferences.
How can Massage and Heat benefit horses?
Our horses work hard for us with a lot of pressure being put onto their muscles through exercise.
Massage and heat are two simple ways in which we can help support healthy muscle function in our horse.
Massage
Performance depends on freedom of movement, full flexibility, and an absence of musculoskeletal pain, all of which can be improved using massage (Gellman, 1998).
These factors also contribute towards keeping your horse comfortable and happy in general too!
Benefits of Massage include:
• Helps maintain healthy blood and lymph circulation.
• Soothes tired muscles.
• Supports recovery after exercise.
• Promotes relaxation.
Heat
Using heat is a great way to help sensitive horses who may find massage too much. Heat is non-invasive, gentle, and well accepted with many associated benefits.
Research suggests that tissue temperature needs to increase by at least 3 to 5°C from the resting temperature (Bockstahler et al, 2004). However, using something that is too hot could cause discomfort and even damage to the tissue.
Did you know?
The Massage Mitt Hotspot has been tested to increase skin temperature by 8.7°C on average?
Benefits of Heat include:
• Helps maintain good oxygen supply to muscles.
• Encourages muscle relaxation.
• Increases flexibility.
Using the equine Massage Mitt Hotspot Heat Pad:
LOW – this is best suited for a relaxing massage:
• After exercise.
• On a day of rest.
• For a sensitive horse.
• When introducing the Hotspot for the first time.
MEDIUM – this is best suited for general maintenance and everyday use:
• For a pre-exercise warm up.
• General maintenance massage.
HIGH – this is best suited:
• For horses who prefer a more intense massage.
• Those with thicker coats.
• Horses who are a bit overweight.
Use cyclical massage for your horse if you are holding the Hotspot heat pad still. This is useful when targeting a specific area.
Use continuous massage for your horse if you are moving the Hotspot heat pad over larger areas. This allows each sweep to deliver the same massage.
Use the heat for your horse on its own for a gentle session to aid healthy circulation. This is ideal for sensitive horses or those returning to work. Heat is also perfect to help warm up muscles prior to stretching your horse.
For the ultimate session, use heat and massage together! This is best suited when holding the Hotspot heat pad in one area or sweeping it over a smaller area.
Who is the Massage Mitt Hotspot for?
All horses and ponies could certainly benefit from the Massage Mitt Hotspot, including those:
• At rest/retirement.
• In work from hacking to competition. This includes horses returning to work or retraining.
• For older horses.
• Horses on box rest, standing in for long periods of time or on limited turnout.
How do I care for the Massage Mitt Hotspot?
The Massage Mitt Hotspot just needs a gentle wipe down with a damp, clean cloth if the material gets scurfy. For Battery and Charger care, please see their safety instructions included in the packaging, or here.
Caution! Do not use on the following (for humans and horses):
• Open wounds, new injuries, or new swelling (for the first 48 hours).
• Where there is suspected infection or malignant tumours.
• Burn injuries or deep vein thrombosis.
• Over the abdomen if pregnant.
• Circulatory problems, causing hypo or hyper sensitivity to heat.
• Active bleeding, bruising or haematoma.
• Bony areas such as the wither, point of shoulder or hip.
• Do not apply more than 2 consecutive cycles of heat in one spot.

What inspired the Riding Mask for horses?
Timmy, who if you haven’t heard of him before, is the reason behind Equilibrium Products. He was a very sensitive soul who started shaking his head as a youngster. This led to the development of many products, including the Muzzle Net, Field Relief Max and finally, the Riding Mask. While the Muzzle Net gave him much needed relief, paired with the Riding Mask it was an even better solution!
What is the material used within this ride on fly mask?
Two types of mesh are used within the Riding Mask. There is a softer one, which goes over your horses’ ears to keep them protected but comfortable. And then a slightly firmer PVC mesh over the face, giving it structure to stay away from your horses’ eyes and eyelashes. This mesh also provides over 65% UV protection for those horses who are sensitive to sunlight.
Who is this Ride on Fly Mask for?
While anyone can use the Riding Mask, it is great for horses who:
• Are sensitive to sunlight.
• Are sensitive to flies and midges.
• Shake their heads when ridden.
How do I care for the Riding Mask?
To clean the Riding Mask, we recommend that you just rinse it regularly in lukewarm water. Do not wring or spin the material.

What inspired the horse Massage Mitt?
As an extension of the Equilibrium Massage range, the Mitt was brought in to extend the positive effect the Massage Pad was having on horses across the world. While the Massage Pad effectively targets the back, the Massage Mitt can target any muscle you want to!
Using the equine Massage Mitt:
The Massage Mitt has three different settings, which can be selected easily from the mitt control panel. You can select the intensity of the program to suit your horses’ needs. Each program has three different types of massage: pulsing, vibration, and stroking. This ensures the muscles are worked in different ways. Each session lasts 10 minutes which allows enough time for full coverage over the horses’ muscle groups.
The Massage Mitt can be easily incorporated into your warming up and cooling down routine.
• The low setting can then be used as part of a gentle cool down.
• The medium setting can be used to help warm muscles up prior to exercise or on a day off.
• The high setting can be used for those horses that prefer a more intense massage.
It comes in a handy carry bag which makes it ideal for use at home, away or in the lorry. It is wipe clean, making it easy to care for. The bag also has useful storage spots for the battery and charger.
How can Massage benefit horses?
As found with the Equilibrium Massage Pad, there are several benefits of massage.
Massage is well known for its ‘feel good’ factor and the Massage Mitt has been shown to aid relaxation and assist with the maintenance of healthy muscle and muscle function. Tension is often one of the most common reasons for poor performance. By increasing relaxation and improving back flexibility, the negative effects of tension can be reduced. A relaxed horse, with relaxed muscles, will move with fluidity and suppleness which is particularly important for competition horses performing dressage movements, and those jumping technical fences.
Who is the Massage Mitt for?
All horses and ponies could certainly benefit from the Massage Mitt, including those:
• At rest/retirement
• In work from hacking to competition. This includes horses returning to work or retraining.
