Winter conditions can be tough on horses’ legs. One horse’s story stayed with Equilibrium, where he physically couldn’t go out in the field because of the wet and mud and the effect it had on his legs. As we horse owners know – turnout is an important part of a horses’ routine for both their physical and mental wellbeing. The winter weather can be relentless, and therefore the Close Contact Turnout Boots were born. They are designed as a second skin on the horses’ leg while keeping them protected from the mud, wet and cold.
What material is used in the Close Contact Boots?
These close-fitting turnout boots are made from perforated neoprene. This helps keep legs cool with their breathable material. They also feature a four-way stretch, which is essential. The cleaner you can keep these chaps when placing them onto your horses’ legs, the better! Machine washable at 30 degrees, and quick to dry means they are easy to care for. However, for day to day, giving them a quick wash off once your horse has come in is best practice if they are particularly muddy. While they do dry quickly, having a second set on standby can help if the weather is particularly bad, cold, and wet!

The fetlock boots are comprised of 3 protective layers, which aim to protect from concussion and penetration.

The first layer against the horses skin is smooth and soft EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate). This allows it to sit comfortably against the horses' leg and also complies with class rules.

The second layer is a tough and breathable, yet flexible EVA waffle. This allows it to be durable and protective, but also enables the horse to move without restriction.

What is the material used within the Magnetic Hock Boots for horses?
Equilibrium Magnetic Boots are made of a nylon inner and outer, with polyester fill. The fill provides enough warmth and padding but is not too thick, so the boot remains flexible and comfortable, while providing some warmth but not overheating the legs.
The inner layer is completely Velcro receptive too, so that our magnets can be placed anywhere throughout the boots – including over the hock joint.
Four magnets are supplied with each pair of boots. They are reasonably thin and flat, yet extremely flexible. This allows them to mould to the horses’ legs, should they need to be placed over a joint. How the Quick Chill Rug works:

Here’s a breakdown of how the Quick Chill rug works:

1. Specialised Material

The rug is made from a high tech, breathable open cell structure material, which is designed to effectively absorb and store water. This material has been chosen for its ability to retain water, but also to allow the water molecules to move through the fabric easily.

The rug should be fully submerged in a bucket of water, or thoroughly soaked. Once removed from the bucket, wring out the excess water and place onto the horse. The water stored within the fabric is essential for the cooling process, but due to it being held within the fabric, it will stop your horse from getting soaking wet when used for up to 10 minutes.

2. Heat transfer, evaporative cooling and breathability.

Your horse will be warmer than the rug, and so the thermal energy will move via conduction from the hottest place (the horse) to the cooler place (the rug) to equalise temperatures. The water from the rug also evaporates into the atmosphere to further aid cooling, similar to what happens when your horse sweats to naturally attempt to cool themselves down.

The cooling area of the rug is contoured and shaped so that it covers the large muscle groups across the back and hindquarters with direct contact, and the remainder of the rug is mesh to allow it to remain lightweight for use in the summer, but also to remain well-ventilated to facilitate breathability and evaporation to further aid the cooling process.

This process helps regulate the horses body temperature while providing a cooling sensation without soaking the horse. The rug can be reactivated as many times as it is needed by re-soaking it in water, making it an environmentally friendly solution to keep horses cool in warm conditions.

The Hotdot is designed to reach 42°C on the surface and has been carefully tested to stay within the researched heat range of 40–45°C during the 10-minute treatment period.

Using the Massage Mitt Hotdot

The Massage Mitt Hotdot has three massage intensities, allowing you to tailor each session.

LOW

Best suited for:

• Introductory sessions.
• Cooling down after exercise.
• Particularly sensitive horses, dogs or pets.
• Animals new to massage.

MEDIUM

Best suited for:

• Everyday use.
• General maintenance.
• Pre-exercise use.
• Horses and pets who are comfortable with regular massage.

HIGH

Best suited for:

• Horses who prefer a stronger massage.
• Animals with thicker coats.
• Animals who are slightly overweight.
• Larger or giant dog breeds.

For a targeted session, hold the Hotdot over a specific area for 5–10 minutes. If tolerated, light pressure can be applied for a stronger massage.

For an all-over massage, move the Hotdot slowly in sweeping motions over the main muscle groups, following the direction of the hair. Spend around 2 minutes on each area, including the neck, shoulder, back, hindquarters and hamstrings.

Use heat on its own for a gentle, warming session. This is ideal for sensitive animals, those returning to work, animals recovering from injury, or for warming muscles before stretching.

For a deeper session, combine heat and massage together.

Who is the Massage Mitt Hotdot for?

The Hotdot can be used on horses, humans, dogs and other pets.

It is suitable for horses and ponies:

• At rest or in retirement.
• In work, from hacking to competition.
• Returning to work or retraining.
• Who are older or sensitive.
• On box rest, standing in for long periods, or on limited turnout.

How should I charge, store and care for the Hotdot?

A full charge can take up to 6 hours. The indicator light shows red while charging and blue when fully charged. Charge indoors only, with the cable fully uncoiled, and avoid wet environments.

Once charged, replace the dust cap on the charging port.

When not in use, make sure the Hotdot is completely dry before storing it in the bag provided. Store in warm, dry conditions, away from direct sunlight.

To clean, do not wash the material. Gently wipe with a damp cloth using water only, and do not scrub.

Caution

Do not use the Hotdot on:

• Open wounds, new injuries or new swelling within the first 48 hours.
• Areas where infection is suspected.
• Malignant tumours.
• Bony areas such as the wither, point of shoulder or point of hip.

Do not apply more than 2 consecutive cycles of heat in one spot.
