Massage Mitt Hotdot Instructions

Introducing the Hotdot to your dog

We recommend before starting the below, you ensure you have read our general instructions on charging your Hotdot, the settings and when not to use it. You can find these instructions here.

Choose a quiet time when your pet is already relaxed to first introduce the Hotdot. This could be in the evening once they have settled after dinner, after a walk or when ever works for your individual pet.

Below you'll find image and video guides on introducing it to your dog.

Step 1

Let them investigate: Allow your pet to sniff the switched-off Hotdot. Do not allow chewing or mouthing.

Step 2

Introduce touch: Use the switched-off Hotdot to stroke areas where your pet already enjoys being touched.

Step 3

Introduce the sound: Hold the Hotdot slightly away from your pet and turn the massage onto low.

Step 4

Soften the vibration: Place your hand on your pet’s shoulder or hindquarters and rest the vibrating Hotdot on the back of your hand.

Step 5

Make direct contact: If your pet remains comfortable, slowly remove your hand and place the Hotdot directly against the muscles.

Step 6

Explore the settings: Gradually try other massage intensities or add heat where appropriate.

Targeted Use

The Hotdot is primarily designed to be held over a specific muscular area.

Your vet, veterinary physiotherapist or suitably qualified therapist may identify areas that could benefit from targeted use between appointments.

  • Hold the Hotdot over the area for 5–10 minutes.
  • Begin with gentle contact.
  • Light pressure may be used if your animal remains comfortable.
  • Heat and massage can be combined for a deeper session.

Do not press heavily or use the Hotdot directly over prominent bones.

All-over massage

The Hotdot can also be used for a general massage.

Move it slowly in a sweeping motion, following the direction of the coat. Work over the main muscle groups, including the:

  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Back
  • Hindquarters
  • Hamstrings

Spend approximately two minutes on each muscle group and repeat on both sides of the animal where appropriate.

Do not hold the Hotdot over one area for an extended period unless you are carrying out a targeted session.

Using heat

Heat can be used on its own or with massage. Heat alone may be particularly suitable for animals that find massage too stimulating.

For best results, concentrate the heat over a small muscular area.

The Hotdot is designed to reach approximately 42°C at the surface. Its internal sensor regulates the temperature throughout the 10-minute session.

Gentle heat may help to:

  • Support healthy circulation
  • Encourage muscle relaxation
  • Support flexibility
  • Maintain comfortable movement

Do not apply more than two consecutive heat cycles to the same area.

Stop if your pet appears worried or uncomfortable. Signs of stress in dogs can include lip licking, yawning, freezing, staring, trying to move away or heavy panting.

Return to an earlier stage and try again another day.
